Liege Airport eyes to explore favorable trade conditions in India
Belgium has strong trade relations with India being the second largest trade partner in the European Union after Germany. High value diamonds, gems and jewelry account for a major chunk of this. Recently they have been on the lookout for new pastures.
It is no surprise then that Liege has been a regular participant in the international biennial air cargo events organized by STAT Times in India. Liege has been Silver partner in the earlier occasion. This time too, in AIR CARGO INDIA 2016, Liege has become Silver Partner which is a testimony to the networking opportunities that the event has been providing for the participants.
Liege Airport is the most important cargo airport in Belgium today. Liege ranks eighth in the European cargo rankings. Air Cargo has scripted the success story of Liege Airport. Liege’s excellent cold storage facilities make it an ideal hub for transport of flowers, vegetables and fish. Liege also has expertise in the transport of materials for the Oil & Gas industries.
According to IATA reports, India has emerged as the second fastest growing air cargo market after the Middle East and is expected to grow at a compound annual rate of about seven per cent over the next five years earning it a place among the ten largest international freight markets by 2018. The event could be an ideal platform for Liege to forge new trade pacts.
“Liege Airport is happy to return to Mumbai, and to support ‘STAT Times’ and ‘Air Cargo India 2016’. The cargo market in India, and in the whole region, is an important pocket of growth. For now, Liege Airport connects to India mainly for Express with TNT, via Dubai and Doha. Direct freighter connections to connect India, Liege and the rest of the world remain our target. ‘Air Cargo India 2016’ is the perfect platform to make it happen. We look forward to a wonderful event”says Steven Verhasselt, Business Development manager.
